We would like you to establish a Global OD practice in Medtronic…

How would you respond to such a request from an organization with $16 Billion in revenue, 39,000 employees and businesses in 120 countries?

John Collingwood will share his insights and lessons learned in the eight-month long journey since he was commissioned to establish a Global OD practice within Medtronic.

Program Overview

"None of us is as smart as all of us" is the old adage. During this session, you will gain some insights as to what has worked and what could be improved in Medtronic and your organization. Your active engagement will be sought - so be prepared for a stimulating learning experience!

This will be an interactive experience that will benefit seasoned OD practitioners, curious first-timers and everyone in between.

During the session, John will address:

How can we have Global OD when so many issues and interventions are locally based within countries, Business Units and functions?

How can we navigate the delicate path between leading a fledgling OD function charged with bringing about change while honoring what work has come before?

How do we determine the priorities of Global OD?

How do we determine the best structure to put in place: Who should OD report into? Where does OD fit?

Whose sponsorship and support is paramount?

How do we simultaneously build awareness /capability across the organization?

How can we build effective partnerships with HR practitioners?

How do we manage the workload without becoming swamped by requests and failing to deliver, disappointing key clients?

What can be done to sustain and even optimize energy levels as the demands of bringing about change take hold?

What does success look like and how will we know we have gotten there?

    Lessons learned so far…

What is it like to be a South African transplant to the Twin Cities, learning to adapt to the prevailing culture, both in society and within the World Headquarters of Medtronic?

There is no pretense made that the Medtronic

journey is anywhere near complete, but this

presentation will afford you an opportunity to think

about your own sense of and use of self as an agent

of change as you consult to organizations, work

within corporations in an OD capacity or continue

your OD studies.
